In support of Berry College's commitment "to high academic standards" (2005-2007 Catalog vii), the Writing Center seeks to foster excellence in the thinking and writing of all Berry students. To do so, the Center's trained peer tutors work individually with students to help them develop habits of mind and concrete skills in the invention, evaluation, and revision of written work. Such skills touch upon all parts of the thinking and writing process: from understanding the rhetorical dimensions of an assignment or writing situation; to the discovery, organization, and logical development of ideas; to citation and documentation practices; to the finishing work of editing and proofreading. In keeping with their central goal of developing better thinkers and writers and not just better papers, consultants ask tutees to participate actively in the session and do not compose or directly edit any portion of a writer's text.
